Transistor/semiconductor/triode?

This here's yer stab in the dark request!

I just bought a used PTZ camera for my security system, FWIW, it's a Honeywell KD6i.

I bench tested it and it didn't work. Upon closer inspection I found a broken three pronged little thing. I am NOT and electronics guy but I do live way out in the boonies and getting this fixed is going to be a pain.

The numbers on it are VN0610L & F0348AF. It took a microscope to read the little buggers. Then thanks to the internet, I managed to find out it's a semiconductor, or a transistor, orrrr a triode.....

Is there anything that I can use in it's place without screwing up my new cam? I do have a few old stereos and whatnot around that I might find something on.

A sharp photo of the affected area with something for scale might help.

With that many characters on it, it can't be *that* small.

OK, it looks like a mosfet in a TO-92 case. Like this.

They are available for a few places. Depends, of course, where you are.

Probably need to confirm that this is the correct package, but it seems very likely.

And I really did need a microscope to read it! It also has a stylized looking S.

Yep, that's a TO-92 case.

You would be looking for an N channel mosfet. The specs do not seem to be particularly exciting. The only tricky thing is the gate protection this device has. It is not possible for me to say whether this is a requirement in your circuit.

Well, I found a couple of C828 0 3N's, could that work?

Assuming those are 2SC828's, then no. Those are NPN bipolar transistors.

That's an old Siliconix part number.
You'll have to find one on-line.
Well Gain Electronics has them for $3.30 each, for example.

So then there's nothing else that will do in a pinch then?

The folks I bought the camera from are willing to replace it so I'm leaning more and more towards that option. At least then I'll have something that we know works before it was shipped!

Well hells-bells. The VN061L may not be the ONLY bad part.
If somebody is willing to replace your problem camera, what is there to think about?
