transistor/relay need help

hello people. i just need something done on my car and dont know how.

so, computer sends +5v to detail(periodically, 0.2ms durration), but it's nor recommended to connect directly.

so i need something like transistor that will turn on when +5v(or ground) provided from computer, and will send +voltage(5v or 12v) to detail(ignition coil)

any ideas?

A simple level shifter like this one:

Note that the values shown are exemplary only. Dependinmg on your needs you may have to use different transistors and/or resistor values.

It may be useful to add a pull-down resistor (e.g. 1kOhm) from the 12V output tpo ground to ensure 0V at the output when transistor Q2 is off (shown as optional R4).

If you do that then the output will never be 12V. the 5V_input is your signal that is periodically 5V, not the 5V supply.
