Greetings!
I enjoy reading the discussions of new technology and extreme details,
but I need some simple handyman-style help.
Since the 6th grade, I've wired my own small lamps
with magnetic ballast (USA: 120 volts), starter-switch or starter,
18-24 watt lamp. But those were all T8 (1 inch) or T12 (1.5 inch diameter).
Sometimes I've dabbled with small (6-13w) T5 lamps
(usually blacklight) also with magnetic ballast.
I have a 15 inch 18 watt T5 Ott-lite (on clearance for $2.50)
but I'm hesitant to use the good-old 18w magnetic ballast
for fear the current's too high for the smaller heater-filaments.
Am I being silly?
I saw some adapters for T5 lamps in T8 fixtures.
Are they just adapting the connectors, or is there some circuitry too?
Thanks in advance.
