convert 3v to 12v?

Hi,
Would like to build a small LED light system powered by 2 AA's i.e 3v. But I would like 12v for what I have in mind.

Is there anyway to go about this? What components do I look for ? What are the downsides?

There are small voltage boost converter modules for a couple of dollars.
Will handle a couple of amps on the output.
They say they will operate down to 3v but bear in mind that your AA's voltage will drop below this as they drain down.

The question is why you would want to use 12V for LEDs when the max voltage they require is about 3.5V?

And what kind of power are we talking about?

Hello,

When you convert the 3 Volts to 12 Volts, the current on the 3 Volts side will be at about 4.5 to 5 times higher, due to efficiency losses.

A string of LED "fairy lights" is sold at The Dollar Store and uses one AA cell and lights about 20 LEDs.
I have two that have 10 LEDs that can be switched on or switched to flashing and they are powered from one rechargeable AAA cell and are charged from a little solar panel.

The LEDs are all matched so that they are connected in parallel.
