Bypass light control in ceiling fan?

Hunter ceiling fan with three light fixtures. The lights quit working, fan works fine. The replacement wiring harness is no longer available (9 years old). I eliminated the electronic control box in the fixture and the lights work, but I'm concerned about safety. Not sure what the control was in there for, anyone know if eliminating it is a bad idea. Can't seem to get a picture to load here, the box is labled "Hunter EBL Intertek model 99245X part #99245-03"

If the control box is approx. 6" x 3" x 2" high, then it is a remote control add on.

Thanks but it's only about 1" X 2" X 1.5" with 4 wires (2 neutral/common, 1 power in and 1 power out).
