Barrel connectors

Does anyone make a gauge for barrel connectors? I have a battery powered (7.4v, 2200mAh LI-ion) shoulder heating unit, but the battery is placed in a very awkward spot, and I would like to make a short extension (8 to 10 inches) to put the battery in a different spot. The battery has an automatic safety shut-off that shuts it down after a half hour, but when wearing the unit, you can't see the battery. The battery has an integrated on/off/heat control switch and if you can't see it, you don't know whether it's on or at what temperature setting (poor design, but the unit works really well). I suppose I could just cut the wire and splice in a new piece, and I may end up doing that, but I will no longer be able to put it in the original spot, and I like to be able to do that in case I want to sell the unit. The unit uses a positive-center barrel connector to connect the battery to the unit, but I can't tell what size it is. I have done a few small projects using barrel connectors before, but I've always been able to take them into the local RadioShack to match up, but since they've gone out of business in our area, there is no one close that I can do that with. I wouldn't mind investing in a gauge for the purpose if anyone makes one.
