5 Gbps wireless good for 9 meters?

The claim is 5 Gbps at a distance of 9.1 meters using a 5 x 5 mm chip with
a 1 mm antenna. Power 2 W. Cost 10 USD. Frequency 60 GHz.

For real or just vapor?

Real. One of the things that makes it practical is water vapor -
shorter range, but less interference from other transmitters in the
same band, due to O2 and H2O absorbtion.

You may see more finessed solutions (e.g. OFDM) soon. Cost will be
