wireless dpdt for ceiling fan reversing switch

I have a ceiling fan that doesn’t remote control and I can control the fan and light just fine with a switch on the wall. There is a dpdt switch on the fan that reverses the direction. I am trying to figure how to make this dpdt switch controlled remotely with either a remote or a smart phone. Anybody have an idea how to achieve this. I am not afraid to get out my soldering gun.

Mains powered remote relay.
Plenty on Ebay etc.
Problem would be getting everything under the cover, plus any insurance cover after the fire would void your policy as the modification would not be approved or certified.
