Why do street lights flicker in snowy weather?

A

Archimedes' Lever

Last night we had lightning, not flickering street lights -- and there
were power cuts also. Do you live near any rail system? The shoe
on the third rail makes some pretty impressive lightning which lights
up the clouds - especially in a fog or snow storm.
All lightning discharges atmospheric accumulated charge to ground. I do
not know of any that goes from the ground, up to the clouds to "charge"
them back up.

You should re-evaluate what you think you know about lightning.

Lightning which "lights up the clouds" is called heat lightning, and
has never been due to the cloud being the final destination for the
lightning. It is cloud-to-cloud activity.

Lightning goes from charged accumulations in the clouds, DOWN to Earth.

Earth is the attractor, and is always larger than a charged cloud.
Atmospheric densities keep the clouds up there. Therefore, the only
way they can discharge is into the Earth, so that will ALWAYS be the
direction of travel, even if the leaders and such can sometimes make it
appear to the uneducated as if to go from the ground up into the air.

The ONLY exception are the "sprites" that spit straight up out into our
uppermost atmosphere. Even those are remnants of an Earthbound lightning
discharge.

This does sound to me familiar as being one of yours, possibly
give-or-take some petty spelling error or petty other failure to note one
of your nyms. I remember it leading to you being often called
"AlwaysWrong" in sci.electronics.design.
Not mine. Likely some lame **** from the kook group.

I saw it from you (or otherwise from someone so deranged as to want to
imitate you) in sci.electronics.design.

Another **** up on your part. Mine is FATBytestard, which you failed to
list, even though I often use it. This one is a Kook group clone.

That explains plenty!

<SNIP everything afterwards, including dozens of nyms and denial of a
couple of them and calling someone a "retard" in 5th-6th grade fashion.>

News to me that it exceeded an estimate by one of your opponents and my
memory of your offenses!

This means that KRW is on-spot by claming that you have at least 70!

Most retards can count as high as K-Tard can. Also, since he is part
of the trinity of immaturity cubed, it is easy to count his obsessed
buddy's list, even if it is off by a few, and claimed a few that were not
valid as being mine.

Yes, except that it is a clone of the one that is actually mine, likely
posted by a kook group twit. You are familiar with the kook group, yes?

If you had paid attention to those I set aside from the list, you would
see where the differences are.

NONE of my nyms were constructed such that they appears with the
enclosing symbols: < and >

The reason? All of my emails are fake, and that is not the way agent
expresses them.

So they were constructed by a clone retard that used a different reader
to make the clone.

Note the difference in this post. Mine are ALL encapsulated in quotes
and then followed by the fake email.

You turkeys would not get a real email from me if my life (or yours)
depended on it.

Change your name to reply, retarded arse of a donkey, or I won't see it.
*plonk*

Complete idiots that announce their filter file edit sessions are about
the most retarded twits to ever post in Usenet.

Those that **** with the follow up line are even more retarded. You are
one such total retard. You starred in the movie, right?

New one on me by the offender, of maybe 20-30?

He does get me a bit in the mood to look for newsreaders with capability
to build killfiles based in part from favorite words and phrases by major
offenders - such as the word "retard" and whatever else is usually used by
whoever uses that word.

The easiest solution is to find a newsreader that can kill on
NNTP-Posting-Host:. He's on Cox in San Diego (72.197.143.xxx or there
abouts). That doesn't get all the fallout from DimBulb's crap. Jim
Thompson has a filter for Agent that will kill responses to DimBulb,
as well.

In the UK we currently have cold winds and snow.

A radio phone-in got a lot of people talking about flickering street
lights.

Is there a real connection between bad weather and flickering street
lights. If so then how does it work?

DUMMY BECAUSE YOUR LINE OF SIGHT IS TEMPORARILY OBSTRUCTED BY THE
FALLING SNOW

ARE YOU PITCHING FOR A TITLE IN THIS GROUP ???

Gee, I wonder why street lights flicker in snowy weather. Guess no one
really knows.

Hope

Gee, if you were any more retarded, you'd be a slug. Use some common
sense, boy.

You are a wiz at nothing.

Still having fun, but could be busier. At least we don't have 3' of
snow. ;-)

But you got bugs. I don't have 3' this year...yet. I've noticed
that people around here think a storm dropping a foot of snow is
big. They should live through a nor'easter.

But you got bugs.

Not so much. Lotsa ants (little teensy "sugar" ants). Not so much
anything else. They spray for mosquitoes once a week, but they're
*nothing* like the VT variety. Oh, and carpenter bees. $150 took
care of them in the spring. That'll probably be a recurring expense.

BTV got >33" over the weekend. It's a good place for it. ;-)

Bean town normally got more snow than we did, particularly in
Nor'easters. BTV is pretty far inland.
