Through-hole or Zebra on an LCD?

R

Robert

Hello World,

A new project is taking shape. Not using through-hole mounting on the LCD
would make routing the PCB easier. I have no experience with zebra strips.

What are the pros and cons of using a zebre strip for connecting to the
LCD? There will need to be a backlight nder the LCD.

Thanks for your comments,
Robert

The main consideration for zebra strip application is that you must
capture the mating parts in a secure manner that compresses the zebra
the correct amount .... but not too much. You also want to avoid
flexure in the compressed zebra joint. Most common commercial LCD
modules you see have a metal frame over the LCD glass that clamps it to
the underlying PC board (with the zebra strip in between) in such a way
that twist type fingers on the metal bracket pull the bracket tight
down to the board with the correct mechanical recipe so as to easily
achieve the correct zebra compression ratio in a production
environment.
