Solar PV comparable to gas fired power stations

Ideas should stand, and be evaluated, on their own.
Conservatives often have good ideas.

No one said otherwise and you completely missed my reason for
calling that particular one out. Its abstract and chapter
content __supplements__ what one finds for the last one I
mentioned, which was my main point in drawing any attention
to the general "product line" of this author (which is worth
reviewing, as well, to get the overall worldview in play.)

It was the last book I wanted to draw attention towards. The
book places the author diametrically against what is probably
the very most remarkable and successful science theory. That
idea has, in fact, stood the test of time very, very well.

I think it's worth looking at an author's work product, John.

There is an old Cincinnati local group's song called "Music, Sex, and
Cookies"

Kind of along the lines of the Jerry Jeff Walker "I Make Money, Money
Don' Make Me" only better. ;-)

It was on one of the "WEBN Album Projects" (#2 I think). A cool local
radio station that still sponsors one of the country's biggest annual
fireworks displays down at the riverfront.

I agree. In fact, my understanding is that aircraft communications often
still uses regular old AM specifically because doubling (two simultaneous
transmissions) on AM has a far better chance of still being intelligible(you
hear both tranismissions) vs. FM (where either both parties end up obliterated
or the capture effect just gets you the stronger guy) or digital modulation
schemes.

---Joel

AFAIK most aircraft radio is FM. IIRC with FM if the two signals at the
receiver input are within 1 dB you get both, if the difference is over 3
dB you get only the stronger (capture effect). In-between either previous
or obliteration can happen.

A thesis at a minimum, decreasing the SNR of the literature </irony>.
If all goes well, even better: grants and 'green' jobs.

Your irony turn off indicator was placed on line too high.
Amphiboly intended.

Gas power stations can be turned on and off quickly.
The perfect companion to solar electricity.
Because within a couple of decades solar will be so cheap during the day
that nothing can compete with it.

Just like nuclear reactors would result in electric power too cheap to
meter?
Though the solar power NIMBYs have been rather quiet of late.

Why quote 240 lines of hooey for a one-liner?

Thanks,
Rich

Better question, why did OP [Dick Bruere] copy and paste the text of the
link as well as posting the link (without adding anything [of value])?

putting huge solar arrays(panels or mirrors) in desert locations will be
harmful to the indigenous life there, and besides, solar panels and mirrors
need a lot of scarce WATER to keep them clean. Nothing can or will be
allowed to grow under the arrays, either.
then there's the long HV distribution lines that environuts are constantly
blocking.

Oh, you mean "big solar".
I hear some environuts are actually coming around to appreciate nuclear
power plants. clean, safe, and reliable electric power,in a compact
footprint.

However, most are just watermelons.

Considering the recent unrest in Northern Africa (or south side off
the Mediterranean) the DESERTEC http://www.desertec.org/ idea does not
look too interesting :).
