Quiz buzzer

I'm an entertainer and have converted a toy child's buzzer to have it's output across the speaker terminals fed into an amplifier,
the gain into amp is toooo high
Can I ask how can i fit a variable pot or ?
so i can vary the speaker output

Put a 10K pot scross the two spaker wires and take the output from the slider, typically the middle connection.
