Options for old system Caddx ranger 8800

J

James Wilson

We have an alarm system in our home, the main controller board says
it's a Caddx Ranger 8800. It has been disconnected from phone, AC
power, and battery, for 3 years 11 months, when we bought the house.
Previous owners didn't provide documentation on the alarm (or it has
been lost...) but we would now like to get the system back up, and
possibly monitored. The company that installed it is out of business.
- Is this system worth messing with? I'm not even sure how old it
is.
- How much should I expect to pay (ballpark) an alarm company to
come set it up, if we don't want monitoring (and if we do)?
- Are alarm companies blowing smoke when they say that our system is
incompatible with their monitoring, and we need a new control panel
and keypads?
Thanks,
James

It is an old panel but it probably works okay. It does not have the
capability of sending new high-speed formats so some monitoring stations
probably wouldn't waste their time with it - me neither.
Service call is $70.+ $25. for the battery so you're on the hook for $100.
already and thats before you know if it even works. If it does then you
could use it as a local-only panel. If you have open circuits it may take a
short while more to fix or a couple days overhaul - no way to know until you
see it. I would tell customer over the phone for free that it needs to be
replaced with moden technology and quote a price. No need to drive out
there. Customer can get new adt system for free from any trunk slammer.
