Need help identifying electronic!

I recently moved some parts from my office into my warehouse which is rather old. When I was leaving I noticed that there was this electronic mounted near the door. I will be awarding an A+ to whomever can identify what this is and what it's for

At a close look it appears someone has attached it to the conduit and not fed it from same, the twin lamp cord looks like it feeds some kind of transducer (speaker,squawker/alarm etc) etc.

I agree with Minder. It looks like an electro-mechanical buzzer, probably an ad hoc door-bell arrangement, probably low-voltage AC operated from a door-bell transformer wired to a push-button switch mounted outside, near the door. Or maybe operated from a 6 V lantern battery. Follow the zip-cord to see what is (or was) attached to the other end. If you own the warehouse, you can safely remove it and then Install a wireless door-bell if you expect visitors.
