If neutrik is what I've been using, it's CRAP!!!! easy to grab, nice
tilt, BUT!!! in one year the plastic all crumbled releasing the cables,
connections, etc plus all wonky becaus the crowd eahc other in the
instrument when plugged in. Couldn't even glue parts back together,
because touch and crumbles more.

That's unlikely real Neutrik. Even when it says so on the part, there
are a lot of fakes from China out there.

I need 1/4 inch TIP/RING/SHIELD plugs with FULL METAL HOUSING! and small
diameter shoulders.
I went to MusiciansFriend which looked good, but their website won't
work on our systems, so called, described what I needed, convinced they
understood, ordered parts, promptly received package to find,...wrong
connectors! only have the tip and shield, a mono plug.
I need to replace full metal housing ones [which from descriptions
MusiciansFreind also carry], but these connectors are too wide and when
inserted into the row they not just touch each other, but prevent good
seating by forcing the physical position to be wonky. PLUS! and this is
really important, within a year their internal plastic parts simply
crumbled away making EVERY connector fail, cable falls out of housing,
retention of anything lost. These were those highly touted, somewhat
expensive metal ones which have a comfortable grip when removing from
the chassis jack.
So anybody know a good [inexpensive] source for 'stereo' guitar 1/4 inch
plugs with tip, ring, shield [for shielded twisted pair cabling] with
FULL metal housing? yet, rather small gripping diameter?
This is usually "the good stuff" but not cheap:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/TRSCableCon/
Here is a right-angle version:
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/TRSMRAConnSW/
Good shop, we've ordered from there for our church.
it has (at least the right angled has) that useless crimp strain relief
this is the good stuff:
http://www.neutrik.com/en/audio/plugs-and-jacks/px-series/
and the price is about the same at mouser

I've used Neutrik in a design last year, good stuff, and I would have

recommended these. However, they bulge out at the cable end and that

looks like the issue Robert had.
Yes the "normal" ones (C type) are wider at the cable end,
PX is "slimline" only 14.5mm

I don't think Robert can accommodate 14.5mm diameter since that is quite

large.

14.5mm large for a 6.35mm plug? would be hard to get sockets closer than that
there is some sort of standard for jack patch panels which is 15.875mm pitch

Standard would be less than 13mm. Normally the jacks should not be
placed that tight but I have seen that on older mixers. Seems like
that's the problem Robert is having.

The four appear to be evenly spaced 1/2 inch centers, which makes it a bit
tight.

look up Creative Labs, EMU1212 system, with the 0202 daughter board. Does
not appear to be a drawing in the manual, but from the picture appears to
be very tight spacing.

just measured from center of jack #1 to center of jack #4, 3 holes are 1
5/8 inch

around 13.75 mm centers. No wonder EVERY plug doesn't work.

That looks like a design screw-up.

For some reason these 'new' websites hang, or crash, all our systems,
and Mouser is one of them, so can't go surfing around there.

I am VERY happy to report that just got off line with MusiciansFriend
and they are shipping me the items I need. Culmination is that they have
taken care of me very quickly, I'm happy and they're happy.

Basically, reached a US citizen every call, and the last one took care
of everything. So, I'll probably use them again.

Again,
MusiciansFriend == GOOD
NEVER had any kind of problem with their website.
Your system must be goofus or anti HTML 5 or swearword Vista.
Replace it with Win95 or "better" (except swearword).

Given common availability of 12.5mm plug shells, "choice" fits better
than "screw-up" here...
