How can we Improve EP in 2017?

Have you done something accidental? The "Perform action with selected posts" banner appears even without any posts selected. I'm sure it didn't before...

And I'm being asked "are you sure you want to like this post?"

And the font in the editor seems smaller.

looks OK here too

Could you attach a screenshot please Steve and I'll see what has happened :).

Looks OK at work. I think I was using the same browser session as last night, so it was probably using an old version of some file.

t would be pretty cool to have a chat room
As for the chat room, how would others feel about this? I'm not keen personally, as it would detract from the more permanent forum element of the site, but if it is a highly requested feature then I can look in to it.

I would personaly like to have the chat room to use it for real time assittance. For example now that i am learning to use picaxe commands i would like to be able to talk in real time with friends in here that can provide me with guidelines.

I personally have a few issues with chat:
  1. will it be like a classroom, where 1 person is teaching and the others are taking notes? if so then wouldn't a thread be better as you don't have 50000000000000 people talking about non related items
  2. why use EP bandwidth for 1on1 chats when there are SOOOOOOOO many chat programs that we could use and the simplest one I know of is Facebook

the idea of a chat room is GREAT for 1on1... but for actual learning not so good, for socialising its also great. to get LIVE information from someone I would personally recommend PMing someone and asking... but then again I personally would prefer a thread that I could go back and review to learn from

I understand your point. Yesterday for example i was discussing with Sadlercomfort about some program codes and we had to go back and forth between ep and facebook to write pices of the code and comments
It's good to be able to go back and review but it is also nice to have a chat room to share instant comments.

Hi Ian and members :)
I say that the forum is as good as its members are helpful to one another.
Kindness and service to others might be good things to reward, both for the sake of the rewarded individual and for the sake of the community.

in regards to chat server the setup is pretty easy, find a server or someone willing to host, download and install desired chat server, give out IP and password if needed....
having said that why not something like a facebook page or we could even try making a free chatroom on a host somewhere. those are usually java based.
there is also the option of teamspeak if actual talking is going to happen. there are also a myriad of apps for phones that are possible.... the only thing I would like to know is if, for example, I team up with poor mystic(by the way where the heck you been????? will pm ya) and say "hey am doing this project can ya help?" he agrees and we jump in together can we then have admin privileges to boot people that are leading us of track so that people who are there to actually learn get that chance? or will a moderator have to be in every time?
If I held a talk on how to best get shocked or how to burn yourself when soldering (Which by the way I am an expert on, if it was a skill in a video game I would rank number 1) or an actual talk on something important even I would like to get in and out and only deal with people wanting to listen.
as it is I see people jumping in and posting weird things on posts when someone asks a straight forward question, not giving out names but it has happened, and for those that are answering the questions it is DONATED time not paid for, so the OPTION to have the "tutor" be able to exclude a person from disrupting the "class" is something I would wholeheartedly want

Hey Ian and crew. just recently I got a thread started about torque.... and when it comes to theory I suck majorly. so I went googling for all the equations. Having a thread with them together for things like people converting hp to watts, torque, resistance etc would be handy.
having those calculators would be overly awesome though...
I know there was a member making apps and if he agrees and Ian approves we could possibly get an app made with EP all over it with all of these calculators together and maybe some advertising for people who are trying to learn...

Why does the editor change the case 2 k W to 2kW?
I have not dealt with absolute temperature lately, celsius is cold enough.:)

Edit I now see that it changes back when stored.

I can add a javascript calculator to the resources section quite easily - all I'd need is a list of the formulas that would be useful and I can code them. It could also work as an app on a phone using the same code. If this sounds like it would be useful, I can make a separate thread for people to add suggestions for the laws/equations to include.

I'm not sure why it would try and correct the case - I wonder if it's auto-correct on your PC/Phone? That's the only thing I can think of :).

actually maybe something for the more advanced users too.... I see a lot of posts about newbies trying to make emp coils (using as an example would prefer no one to ever detail how one works) through to replacing items in mains voltage. I know the common practise is to not allow this topic, and I don't know how one would work out who was allowed in, but maybe for the guys that are mature enough to understand concepts and be able to take guidance and choose what is way out of our experience level.
