Help with transistor radio.

My mother has been using her fathers GE transistor radio for some time but for some reason its not working anymore. I put a fresh battery in but it wont power up. As I can easily buy a new one for her, this particular one has sentimental value and its hard to put a price on that. I'm at work right now so I cant get the model number from it but I would ventue to say its 60-70's manufacture, maybe model 7-2500B but I'll have to check. Is there anyone on these forums that can repair this or can someone refer me to someone can? I'll ship it to wherever it has to go. Thanks in advance.

Check the battery contacts, on/off switch to start. Or find a friendly true amateur radio operator in your neighborhood to attempt the repair. I do not think radio-repairers exist any more. Someone here can bite...

It doesn't sound like you have any experience with electronic repair.
I keep my dad's old transistor radio (he's 85) going because it's usually the capacitors that give out (yeah, you might have a bad transistor, but the capacitors are the first thing to check).
When I was in high school, and some colleges and vocational schools, the students were always looking for broken electronics to try to repair for classroom servicing skill experience.
I don't know if they do that anymore, but it's a thought.
Check with the local ham radio clubs like Externet suggested (they LOVE to help when they can), or try a school with electronics classes that might want something to gain experience by fixing.
Good luck with mom's fix.
