Headphone Jack Repair

J

jj

hey there,

when i stripped back the wire on my stereo headphones to replace the jack, i
see two wire bundles, one on either side. One is copper wire with a red
wire and some plastic-looking insulator (i think). the other side has
copper wire with greyish/greenish/bluish wire as well as some plastic
insulator (again, i think). Are these two bundles just supposed to be
attached to the two leads in the 1/8inch jack? Does it matter which is
connected to the tip of the pin, and which to the base?

thanks so much,

zik

OF COURSE it matters which wire goes to which pin.
If they are stereo headphones with a "stereo" PLUG
there should be as a minimum 3 connections as follows:
Common: (sleeve) the 2 "copper" wires, 1 from each bundle
Right Channel (ring) the "red" wire
Left Channel (tip) the "greyish/greenish/bluish" wire.
