clean 12vdc car power

I am looking to get a constant, clean 12v from my cars 12v line. I am wondering if all I am in need of to pull this off would be a simple 12v fixed regulator?

The 12v would be hooked up to a pico motherboard (19v max input), 7" lcd monitor and an arduino.

So would a simple regulator be good or not? Will it need a heat sink?

That circuit will never supply 15A. Well, it won't without bursting into flames.

The 1k base resistor will limit the available base current and due to the low gain of the 2N3055, this will limit the collector current to a low value.

Rather than go into all the other problems with this circuit, let's answer your question.

Yes a voltage regulator is what you want (by definition), but the problem is the small minimum overhead (12.8V in?) Most regulators require at least a couple of volts.

If you really need 15A, then you're going to have issues with power dissipation among other things.

The NUC is rated from 12v-19v. Not sure of the wattage but the old ones are rated at 65w and i have no idea how many amps. The LCD and arduino... well i really have no idea right now. Maybe 0.50amps for the LCD and less for that on the Ardunio.

Well, that looks better than the first, but it says right on the schematic it's only good for 12V, 5A (60W) on the output, and if your NUC is pulling 65W it's going to use more than 5A at 12V all by itself.
