Ah, It's been too long.. :) I still want to see FootFall made into a
miniseries. The SF channel could do it nicely!

Wishfully, they could, but their original productions are always
terrible.

I'm wondering how bad their new "Battlestar Galactica " will be when
it starts next month.

I thought dune was ok, not as good as the movie, but no matter how you slice
it, that's tough.
Movies can't be that long, and made for TV has to put up with commercial
breaks.
Got to pay the piper somehow.

They may have worked BSG into something tolerable, rather than "Disco Dudes
from Space".. :)

Strangely, whenever I see the abbreviation (TANSTAAFL) ir takes me several
minutes to remember this.

If you have erad Science Fiction since the daze of J W Campbell, you
would remember!!

Oh yeah! I forgot all about Dune. That was very good, and I thought it
was better than the theatrical movie. When writing that I had a funny
sense that I shouldn't say "always".

I meant in terms of bad stories and acting and production values,
although the stories are no worse than what hollywood makes. OTOH when
SciFi Channel makes something again from a classic novel it might be as
good as Dune was.

What's BSG?

BattleStar Galactica.. You know, Disco Dudes from Space! :)

Aha. Destined to be the aliens that ultimately settled Earth (a popular
notion in the disco era). Their leader looked more like Timothy Leary
than Adam Cartright.

I plan to take a look at it too, but I'm not expecting much. :)

Come on Paul - the timetable that was put on screen showed 15 minute
segments.

And he ran over 15 minutes (at least the days he was presenting before
me). I will admit it was specific to the city-- if we had a flight out
early, everybody tried to speed up, but many times Bob would go on for
as long as the questions lasted.
And WHY were you all so scared of pricing information ? The times it was
asked, you could see the speakers blanch. Its OK we won't hold you to
them - say "around 5 bucks" " around 10 bucks" - in X off quantity.
Don't expect an order for 10 million pieces without us checking though.....

Steve

Well, like I said, we are applications engineers, NOT marketers. They
might know the price of the chips, we usually don't concentrate on it.
Now, I realize price is a big applications factor soemtimes but we
tried to stay technical.

As to marketing-- we are all application engineers, NOT marketing
Sorry, I can't let you slide on this one. Granted I did not attend the
seminars in Sweden, so I can't speak to the content there. I did, however go
to the one in Los Angeles, Ca. in September, and the "applications
engineers" there responded to nearly every technical question with something
like " I'm actually not directly involved with this device, but can put you
in touch with a development engineer in that group"

Bob Stephens

Well, point well taken. But you have to realize how big National is,
and the span of our responsibilities. I work on laser driver ICs.
That is the "real job", the one I get rated on. When they round us up
and send us out on a seminar every 2 years, we hope we understand the
product line enough to help directly but it's often best to hook you
up with the specialists for that part.
