Biometric system for demos

I need to find a biometric system of some sort for use in a training
environment. The goal is to expose students to a biometric access control
system, and let them install, configure, and play around with it a bit.

Ideally, we use some panel that can do a finger or hand, in addition to a
keypad. This does not need to be a high security or high reliability device,
just one that works and demonstrates the technology. Something that could be
hooked up to a central controller (PC) would be nice, but optional.

Where can I get an inexpensive device like this?

If you just want something inexpensive that demonstrates biometric
technology, check out the Siemens "ID Mouse" that reads your fingerprint to
allow access to a PC. About $125 each.
