Alright, so I'm working on modding/designing/building a guitar pedal (as the title would suggest). So I had some basic questions to start out with. If you can answer any of these, please do.
1. Do you see where the wires just end on the PCB (For example, where R1 just doesn't connect to anything)? Does that mean that its grounded from there?
2. What would changing the diode values end up doing to the overall sound? Would it clip more? Also, I'd like to make it sound like a tube amp, so I read that you can make the diodes asymmetrical (for example, a different value germanium and silicon running against each other).
3. Same question as 2 but regarding resistors and pots. What effect would lowering the value of a volume pot have on the output? Same thing with the resistors.
4. If I wanted to lower the brightness of the LED, should I put a current limiting resistor there and if so, what value would you suggest?
5. Regarding caps, diodes, pots, and resistors, what can I do to make it crunchier and overdriven?
6. Finally, what could I use to replace the IC chip, which is currently a JRC4558?
If you have any other advice for me, a newbie pedal builder, please let me know! All help is appreciated!
