12v variable 555 timer circuit with motor

I'm trying to make a variable timer circuit that is controlled by a 555 IC running from a 12v supply. I have a basic circuit but for some reason as soon as the circuit is turned on the motor starts spinning and doesn't stop until the power is cut, its like the potentiometer doesn't do anything.

help would be much appreciated, cheers.

You have threshold and discharge shorted (6 and 7)

The second issue is the 1M resistor with only a 10k potentiometer , that's going to be a very slow pulse with 220uf it might not even trigger the 555
