What is 'Alt' parameter in grid setting window of eaglecad?

Could anyone please tell me, what is the 'alt' parameter in the grid setting window and what it is used for?

Eagle allows you to define two grids: a standard and an alternative grid. You'd typically work with the default grid. However, if you need to work out fine detail, you may want to use a finer grid. By pressing the ALT key the alternative grid is activated (from the eagle help file).
