what are the GERBER FILES & what should we consider when genarate them

I am use proteus & I can generate gerber files for my pcb layout
I know that files use to make pcb from cnc kind of machines
I need to know brief explain about them & what should consider when generate them
if I did mistake will machine damage ?
Is proteus is good software for that ?

-Ensure that the gerber variant used is handled by your pcb manufacturer
-Sometime better to add mechanical cut out on each layer
-check your gerber files with an independent (free) software

if I did mistake will machine damage ?

If you are running your own machine, always check the final code to make sure the machine is not told to move somewhere invalid!
If you send the files out, any machine operator should be competent enough to make sure that the code that is sent to the machine will work.
