Our taxes are not a lot different then yours, our top Federal tax rate is
Fascinating! I was under the impression that yours was far higher.
Also, I =think= our highest is 28%. Our govt, in its struggle to join
world socialism, has decreed that someone like me who made $37,000 last
year gets a =refund= of $5331 that I never even paid, simply because I
have 4 kids.... That is utterly insane. But what am I to do; not file?

Remember there are other taxes. As I pointed out in another msg he maybe
paying a lower federal income tax but I'm willing to bet his total tax rate
is much higher.

BTW, the first year I used TurboTax and with all the proper paperwork to
back everything up I paid an adjusted federal income tax of 2% (yes two
percent) on around $50K. I know this because when you finish up with
TurboTax it prints out a page showing you your tax rate.

That's why I am a very careful person. I don't ride motorcycles or run
up and down ladders w/o someone holding it tight. I clean my guns only
when they are unloaded.....

I have the credit to pay the bill on the spot; worry about it
later..... If you can't afford it, and they deny you stuff you need, you
have deductibles, co-pays etc., what freeaking good is it?????????
You can NOT deny they are making more off of you than they are paying
out.

There's always a home equity loan if it gets bad. Terminal illnesses
are covered by Medicaid.
I REFUSE TO BE TERRORIZED BY HEALTH INSURANCE LOBBYISTS!!!!!!!

Don't blame the insurance people when its the trial lawyers who are the
problem. Do a FOIA request for your local not for profit hospital's
financial records and see how much they pay for insurance and/or legal fees.
The next time you talk to a doc ask him how much he pays per year for
insurance. I could live a very good life on just the insurance payments the
hospital pays for my sister-in-law, she an OBGYN nurse. The last time she
told me I think the insurance payments was almost as much as she was being
paid. Multiply that by each health care worker in the US and the number
would choke you.

Never claimed that, just stated a fact that the above was the case in some
states. Canada does have tight gun control and
a homicide rate of 1.85 homicides per 100,000 population. The last time I
checked the USA's rate was 5.64 per 100,000.

I think your assault rates are much lower as well, is that because of gun
control laws or because it is a different culture? Looking at the different
states the ones with the tightest gun control laws almost always have the
highest homicide rates.

I'll point out again that the 'health care crisis' is really a legal system
crisis. How hard is it for you to sue your doc and win? I'm willing to bet
its a LOT harder than here.
LOL, It's hardly a "a legal system crisis" when it cost on average
11,500.00 a year for health insurance for a family of four.

I don't understand; what is Costco? I've heard of where one is, but
know nothing about it. is there one in every major US city? Soon, I'll be
in MO.

Ever heard of Sam's Club? Costco is the same type of thing. Sort of like a
co-op.

In case you don't know what Sam's is. Its a 'wholesale' store where you can
pay a yearly fee and get products (usually in very large quantities) at a
very small mark up. You still need to shop around though, some things are
cheaper at wally world in the smaller packages. Which is really strange
because Sam's and Wal-Mart are owned by the same company.

Is MO predominantly Demoncrat or Republicant?

When I was there it was demo. The area I was in was a yellow dog democrat
area. Darn near killed 'em when Reagan was elected.

Do you have any idea what you total tax rate is? I ask because I think
Canada has a national sales tax (VAT?) as well as other taxes.

Here in GA I pay the feds an income tax as well as FICA and medicare. I
also pay property tax on my land and house, PERSONAL property tax (on each
vehicle) and a state and local sales tax on everything I buy with my already
taxed money. I don't have enough data yet to say what my total tax is (I
just added a Quicken category for sales taxes) but I know its high. Now
with that said I'm willing to bet it would be a lot lower than yours.
We were talking about Federal income tax rates, mines @ 15.5%. Every
province has it's own sales tax as do the Feds @ 6%
with exemptions dependent on income. In my income range at about $37,000
due to deductions, child tax credits etc. we get
virtually all of our Federal taxes refunded. The big saving is health
care, I'm not out $11,500.00 every year to insure my family
as I would be if I lived in the USA.

So all in all, I get back all of my Federal/ Provincial taxes, and pay
$1800.00 a year in property taxes, 75 bucks a year for my car's
registration/plates and whatever tax I pay when I buy gas.

I tried doing that with Quicken as well...... just
takes too much time to make splits for sales tax

YUP!!!! I tell my children to make careers for themselves where they
MUST be physically present in the room to get paid. Otherwise, your job can
be sent overseas in a heartbeat!
yeah that what happened to me....and why I'm
determined to "drop out" as much as possible and get
work in a filed that can not be exported easily

not yearly...

yup.

pay out of pocket for dentist cleaning and exams as
well?

If yes.... have you been able to negotiate lower prices
with doctors and dentists if paying out of pocket and
thereby giving them less overhead in insurance and
paper handling costs?

About 12 years ago I bought 10 sets of nice uniform shirts and pants

Is this what you wear daily?

and why these..why not jeans?

I have a reason for asking.... that is cause I'm
interested in doing same thing as jeans and all cotton
clothes take FOREVER to wash and dry if trying to live
a drop out lifestyle

Try to buy hurricane insurance in Louisiana right now.....

Florida ain't much better. It is the middle of hurricane season right now
and I am "going naked". Everything has a value, and 12 months of
high-deductible homeowner's insurance for my house is NOT worth $6,500. My
house was insured with State Farm for over 15 years and never a sniff of a
claim. Screw them! At the same time, I shopped my auto insurance (that had
been with State Farm for 35 years) and saved $500! That is what loyalty buys
you in this profit-motivated world, a royal screwing!

That's because the nanny government wants to protect you. And this is the
very same government people want to let run the medical system!!!

I think you have got it all wrong. IMHO they are protecting the
companies that know that you need their product unless you want to die
or suffer. Not exactly what a good nanny would allow.

You even paye MORE when you dont have insurance. Crazy.

I'll point out again that the 'health care crisis' is really a legal system
crisis. How hard is it for you to sue your doc and win? I'm willing to bet
its a LOT harder than here.

It is not that hard to sue, you dont even need to prove who did a
misstake, just that your condition got worse due to lack of or poor
treatment.

But then again, you dont get the same amounts, as it is mostly to
compensate your losses due to lower ability to work. The younger you
are, the more you get.
