Weston Model 633

Weston Model 663

Trying to figure out what this thing is worth, or who would want to buy it.. I got it in an auction, and have found little information on it..

It is in the original case with some leads and fuses still in the case.. Has a maroon felt liner..

Shows VAC, VDC, mA (DC), and Ohms on the dial..

VAC 2.5, 10, 50, 250, 500
VDC 2.5, 10, 50, 250, 500
Ohms x1,x10, x100, x1k, x10k
mA DC .5, 1, 10, 100, 500

Hard to say from the picture. But I am pretty sure that you have the model number wrong. The 633 is a clamp on ammeter. From the picture you have a plastic case volt ohm meter, not Bakelite, and with no special features. I can't tell if the external case is wood, but the meter looks removable and not built into the wood case. Maybe late 70's or early 80's. All in all, not very interesting from a historical point of view and not very valuable. I work at a museum that collects electrical and mechanical artifacts, and this is not something that we would look at adding to the collection (unless there is more to it than the picture shows).

Ebay is your best bet to determining general worth, but make sure that you have the right model number. Most vintage volt ohm meters are listed in the $10 to $30 range and not many bidders.

The pictures are a help. Still some confusion though. Clearly the meter movement is marked Weston 663, but I don't think that is the model of the volt ohm meter itself (even though that is also made by Weston). The model 663 is shown here:
http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/weston_663.html
And they are not the same product, or age. The actual 663 model is from the early 30's, and yours is significantly later than that. I am going to guess the 70's from the plastic case and the enclosure picture. It looks like Weston re-used model numbers at some point. Your product is more interesting because you have the case and meter, but it still isn't worth much. You may find a local collector who would like to have it.
The Simpson meter all depends on the series number. You can go here:
http://www.simpson260.com/
and compare photos to what you have, or just look on the meter movement. I thought these were everywhere and not collectible by anyone, but apparently some are sought after. Google is you friend and will give you some more information.
Biddle is still ion business and still makes meggers. Brand new ones are valuable, old vintage ones might be depending on the look. It will all depend on the age and appearance (or it is new and works).
