Wanted: Someone with PCB etching bath in Melbourne

C

Charles L

I am after someone in Melbourne with a PCB etching bath so I can etch a PCB
design. I would do it at my place but I can't have dangerous chemicals in
the house. Let me know and we can come to some arrangement.

Hmm... I've never known Ammonium Persulfate to be that dangerous.

Although Ferric Chloride will kill plants if poured on and and pets if
they ingest it.

Although I did say they are not that dangerous, one should always check
things out for themselves. If you're in the mood for a scare, read the
MSDS. After reading them, one quickly becomes a paranoid. Did you know
salt has a fatal dose and is considered an irritant?

Quick we should ban salt from all industrial, commercial, domestic and
military processes!

We did so well getting rid of Tetra-Ethel Lead from petrol, now everyone is
safe from Lead (just don't mention the fact we effectively replaced it with
super-evil dioxins, oh well cancer patients with unknown causes are easier
to explain away than a few people gone mad from lead - it shows up in easily
done blood samples, whereas no one will think of looking for dioxins)

At least we knew if someone was being poisoned by lead - now we just have
increasing rates of solid-body tumors with no apparent cause........oh well
just vote for whichever politician who looks the friendliest.

BTW how can Labor make medicare for over 75's free and of infinite supply?
That is like saying you create energy..............

Take sensible precautions and you should be OK. Ammonium Persulfate is
quite safe. You need to take a little more care with Ferric Chloride (it
works best at elevated temps; also any stains are hard to remove).

What should I do with the etching solution (Ammonium Persulfate) when I have
finished with it? I don't think it should be tipped down the drain. Where do
I buy Ammmonium Persulfate?

I think places like Dick Smith even sell it.

And onced finished place it in a suitable container and contact your local
council to places you can take it to.

Oh, can anyone provide any links to information about making PCB's?

A few years back I called the EPA re disposal of spent ammonium persulphate,
for volumes of say 20 litres every few months they said just to wash it down
the drain. Their only concern was the copper in it. We ended up keeping it
in a drum and sending it out with some other chemical waste - I think we
were charged $1/litre for disposal.

Omega chemicals (I think that was their name) in Perth sells it cheap in
bulk. Computronics sells it in 2 or 2.5 kg lots.

Ask any nurse or nursing assistant who works in a nursing home or hospital.
Deaths usually occur in 3's.
