Re-inking is a desperate tactic, since the little fiber tips of the pens get
worn down and broaden. KOH-I-NOOR still makes pens for the 74xx series of
plotters. I still have 3 7440's that I'm keeping going. (One of them had
the membrane switch wear out, but it's easy to mount a couple of SPST
momentary contact switches into the plastic housing and wire them to the
appropriate pins on the membrane switch header. The two pads that die first
are the power on/off and the paper grip/release.)
