Video Recorder Packed Up

P

Paul Taylor

I have a Hitachi vhs video recorder and while fast forwarding a tape
using the remote the player just stopped. I cannot get the power light
on or any response to anything I have tried to get it working again.

I have checked all the connections in and out, the fuse in the plug,
the remote. Nothing happens when I try to switch the on/off button
either - no power. Nothing in the manual to help.

Any ideas what might be the problem? Also how do I eject the tape that
is in the player? I don't want to force it out if I can help it - its
my four year old favourite!

Model number and aproximate year / vintage might help. Hitachi has had many,
many different models over the years.

model no.? approx.age of machine? this info is essential for detailed
repair tips.

if it has a switch mode power supply, try replacing the electolytics,
that often brings the unit back to life.... if not, go to fixer.com or
the FAQ for this group: repairfaq.org for tips on removing a tape
without damaging anything.

Take the VCR in both hands , raise it up over your head and with great
force throw it onto a cement floor :)

If its one of those real old ones sounds like a belt broke got cought ,
stalled a motor & blew a fuse .
If its one of the new ones its probably the power supply , please read
the first paragraph :)

unplug the device, check the main fuse, then check further down for an
open fuse (fusible resistor), probably something else caused the short
to begin with.

Okay. Sorry about the lack of detail. Its not a Hitachi. That one I
did lift above my head and smash on the concrete. Sorry for the error.
It is a Toshiba V-245B videoplus. It is about 3 - 4 years old. I have
the manual.
