vcr head diag

the second hand i brougt is a JVC HR-J692U
very clean inside i will clean all the parts and see what will come up cause the first time with some original vhs tapes it was not super

Just my 2 cents worth:
The OP wants to convert VHS tapes to DVD. Not use it to watch films.

I convert VHS, BETA and CINE for many people. It obviously helps to have working units.

This is the correct way to clean a VCR drum & heads. DONT use cotton buds, use either strips of Chamois or purchase head cleaning sticks ( Chamois) & use Alcohol. Very important to clean in horizontal as indicated in picture, If you dont you may break the Head on the drum. Also make sure the drum is spotlesly clean aswell. Your fault is definitly dirty heads. Cotton buds can leave pieces that contaminate the head. If VCR tapes are stored corectly they will last for years, i still have afew that are 30 yrs old & still play fine.1.JPG 3.JPG 4.JPG 2.JPG

I completely agree with the above procedure to properly clean VCR heads like a technician ‘should’.
However, watching mobile TV and VCR techs from yesteryear, this very rarely was done. A q-tip was used on 98% on machines.
Same as shorting caps with a big screwdriver!.
It’s wrong but works.
If cleaned carefully and gently, good results are usually seen.
