Using a coded door lock to trigger light on a timer

I'm an artist, and I have built a sculpture that uses a coded door lock to trigger a mechanism within a sculpture. I would like to modify the sculpture so that the door lock will trigger a light to come on and stay lit for 60 seconds. I would like suggestions for the easiest way to do this.

Assuming the door lock output is low voltage, Use the pulse from the door lock to trigger a 555 timer.
You may have to invert the pulse though. 555 requires a negative going pulse pin 2.
