I spent 10 bucks on a wifi dongle, and well returning bad electronics is no where near as much fun as trying to repair bad electronics..
after about 4 hours of assuming it's me installing the wrong drivers, rather than a hardware fault, let me explain, i plug in the wifi dongle, it detects, usb working, drivers installed, wifi networks show! whooo ok so it's fair to assume that maybe i installed the wrong drivers, anyway 4 hours later, 5 websites later and 5 different drivers with different variations of chipsets, i install all..
no matter what i do, it refuses to connect to any of the visible networks, roll on a week (i've been using Android lately and dropped my pc for a bit to work with that, until now, because i need to get developing again), connects then a few seconds later, nothing drops out, accepts the password but... yeah nothing no data transfer, just pretty dead really...
today, i need to get back on this machine, today a lot of swearing at the damn thing i decide it's a hardware issue so retry all the usb ports, same issue, for the hell of it new drivers, anyway... i'm now pushing the damn usb wifi dongle into the back and all of a sudden the green LED changes from static to blinky!
so after some trial and error twisting it, pushing on it brought it to life!!!! - CPR success, got the paint stripper gun out, fluxed it up and let the solder reflow! - success, we have life, however this cheap dongle came in what can only be described as bomb proof casing, by the time i got inside it was just pieces of the plastic on the kitchen floor, so here's my "brand new" wifi dongle but what are looks lol
