Upgrading the plates on hairstraightners

Hi not sure if this is even possible but was just wondering if I stripped all the wiring and circuitry of hairstraightners and attached them to larger plates of the same metal would it work and would it heat the metal to the same temperature any help would be appreciated

Likely not, for the following reasons:
The newer larger elements would draw higher current.
If protection circuit of smaller elements detects a higher current or heat than it was designed for, it will presume there's a fault and open (if PTC / resettable switch), or blow (if fuse).
If units are fitted with a thermoswitch control, the smaller model maybe rated lower degrees than new plates, so cancelling any advantage of bigger size.
Then again, I've never tried changing HS plates, so could be mistaken.

You can change the 'plates' but all you'd be doing is spreading the same amount of heat (from the element) over a larger area and thus exposing it to greater cooling - nett result being a COOLER plate OR the element would burn out as it doesn't have sufficient output to reach the thermostatically-controlled temperature it's set for. Such heating elements aren't really designed for 100% operation - only intermittent use.
