unlock car door over cell phone

I have a 2001 Dodge Stratus with likely the same door remote system.
The manual says it will work up to 20 feet away but it works often
beyond 50 feet. It may have simply been working in spite of being near
the cell phone.

Always make NEW mistakes.
come on guys,,
you have never seen some one take a cell phone and have a custom
answering playing tune that can be decoded via audio when the phone
inside the car rings?
it's just a little gadget you can get for cars that respond to
a recorded tone sequence that you can up load in the phone that is
in the car just for that number that is calling in.
they also have multiple security configurations to have more than
one phone dial in .
most phones these days can be programmed to play what ever you
up load into when per number!

My friend sent his wife out to her Dodge Durango and had her point her
cell phone at the door while he put the door opener near his other cell
phone. He said he can lock & unlock the door over the pair of cell
phones.

So what is going on here?

Isn't it HIM trying to show off his "trick", and isn't it HIM
holding the garage door opener and secretly pressing the button
while SHE is goggling at the opening garage door in amazement?

Good trick though -- my 1-year-old daughter might fall for it.

Sure they do. Because Windoze is where the money is.

Dunno, a UNIX license for Synplify was about 5X a Win license, a few years
back. There is big bux in high-value software no matter what the
platform. Of course there _is_ more money in 'doze for the hacks.
