Are these two interchangeable? I have the bta12 but not 06 on a blown board...

The BTA06 is rated for all 4 quadrants, the BTA12 only for 3 (Not for MT2(+), G(+)).

The holding and latching currents are also higher for the BTA12. The maximum gate current (Igt) is way higher on the BTA12

It's probably worth giving it a go, but it may trigger less reliably and not work as well on light loads.

What's the application?

A simple light dimmer circuit...

If it does not work i'll swap it out then, but i'll give it a shot, the old triac was shorted and the fuse blown (for a 240vac halogen style 60watt bulbs
