Technics SL-PD827 stuck open

hey all. I was recently given a Technics SL-PD 827 5 disc CD changer, with one small problem. the CD tray opens, but will not close. Any ideas where to start?

I just can't make out ANYTHING on that relevant photo of the mechanics which you have NOT provided.

Otherwise . . . . .considering that the mechanical design is incorporating a motor that energizes to open / close . . . . load /unload
with a pulley on the motor and another with an interconnecting belt.
Confirm if that belt . . .with time and use / or / inactivity has gone "limp" and is just sitting immobile and slipping.
( There might be imbalanced / more mechanical effort / friction involved between open /closing . . . loading / unloading actions.)
