About a half dozen possibilities come to mind. The first would be IC8002,
IIRC, the MCZ3001 regulator controller. Also, there are a couple of
resistors and caps that open up that can be problems, bad FBT, drifting in
the HV protect circuit, 9v regulator with bad solder joints, etc.

Have you even just googled the problem?
I strongly suggest you join a group like TechAssist or NESDANET or
TechData,
and get a tips program like WinsTips. For as little as $50 a year you can
have access to lots more information without having to have someone else
look it up for you.

I did Google the problem and found that the symptoms I read were
somewhat different than mine. This repair sounds like it could be
involved and as you said without training on this chassis this may be
a job for PTS. Do you feel that the problem is probably confined to
the D board though? Lenny..
More than likely, yes. But you need to be more familiar with the circuit
anyway to be sure. I would definitely repair it rather than pay PTS to fix
it. Once you get to know the sony design of this set you can easily fix
lots of other models. If I was working on it I would download the service
manual and training info, along with numerous tips on the model from one of
the sites I listed earlier, then look for help from one of the many other
techs who suscribe to those services and who have lots of experience on
similar sets. Just having access to the tips, archives, and file libraries
usually results in a fix. Once you do the research and can't figure it out,
there are lots of very helpful techs that are willing to help. Much more
serious discussion of repairs goes on on those forums and listserves than
here. Lots of techs do not want to post in public forums like this and
don't want the hassle of all the carping and novices.
