Sony Home Reciever - Scratchy Right Channel

I've got a great Sony reciever that has always done me right, but now
it's got a broken right channel. The first sign was bleed from all
the inputs - eight different audio inputs, and no matter what channel
I have selected, or what channel it's plugged in to, I get a scratchy
distorted signal coming out of the right speaker. For example, if I
have the reciever set on "CD" and I have the RCA's plugged into "Video
1", I'll still get a scratchy signal out of the right speaker. All
channels bleed into one. The left speaker works fine - get a clear
signal and the correct input. It's just the right channel. I've
checked the fuses, and they are fine (I only found five though). I
have a circuit tester, but don't know exactly how to use it. Only
used to use it on fuses. I'm wondering if I can fix it on my own, or
if I need to take it in to a repair man. Any ideas of what's wrong?

This is normally too complex for the end user to service himself. It
involves verifying the supply voltages to the output and driver transistors,
or IC's depending on what is used in your set. Also the unit should be fed
with a low distortion audio generator, and a scope used to trace out the
signal path to see where the distortion is occurring.

You would need the proper tools, training, and service manuals to properly
troubleshoot your set. There are also safety issues when working in these
units.

You should call the Sony service rep to find out where to take your set to
have it properly serviced.

There is probably a bad electronic source-selecting I.C. chip. Probably time
to get it to a shop.

Did you try swapping speakers, just in case your right one is damaged?
