Simple Flashing LED

Hi, I recently made a Flashing LED with what I had lying around and a little research ,I found this http://www.555-timer-circuits.com/flashing-led.html I built that circut on a breadboard and it didn't work so I tried changing the 470k to a 220k and that worked ,the value of that resistor restricts the flow into the capacitor and therefore the frequency of the LED flashes ,the lower lower the resistor value the higher the frequency of the flashes, I thought a potentiometer would work for a variable Flashing speed. I threw in the potentiometer and a switch and it worked great!

There's quite a few ways to make simple flashers, maybe you should challenge yourself to make the flasher with the minimum amount of components to show variations of a flasher circuit?

(Reverse biased 2n2222 or a UJT/PUT, a flip flop circuit)
