Simple DYI on single pole switches

I have a dual switch box with two single pole switches controlling tw
separate lights in two different areas of the room. How do I get th
black/hot and white/common supply from the single source to the tw
switches? (e.g. cut two short black and two short white and wirenu
them to the respective supply wires to create separate leads to the tw
switches or provided "jumper" wires between the two switches)
