SERVO POSITIONING??

I would like to attempt to simulate a Tank Barrel Kick Back, using a servo.

While I know that this can be done simply using a microcontroller, I have no knowledge of doing so, so I would like to do so with standard components.

Is it possible to use a basic 555 servo driver circuit, along with a 555 driving a 4017?

Can the various stages of positioning of the servo be noted from the Pot on the driver, than these equivalent resistances stepped thru on the outputs of the 4017 on the servo driver?

It would be simpler to use a solenoid to yank the barrel back. return with a spring.
Then all you need will be a pulse generator such as a 555 and a driver (mosfet) to drive the solenoid.

Agree with the 2 previous posters. A servo would likely not be fast enough to get the kind of kick you should for the initial recoil.

What scale are you working to? 1:1 would involve enormous forces.
