Scantronic Alarm - replacing batteries

D

Damo

I have a Scantronic 9800 alarm system, professionally installed in my home
some 10 years ago.

This week I was doing some home repairs and had to turnoff the mains
electricity.
After about 5 minutes my burglar alarm went off, and I had to enter my code
to de-activate it. I made no mental connection with the alarm and my turning
off the mains electricity, as I had done this in the past without the alarm
going off.

However, after reinstating the mains power for an hour and turning it off
again, the alarm went off a second time. It was my wife who suggested it
might be the mains power being switched off.

My alarm originally gave the code " 'Lb' = Control panel low battery" and
now states " 'Sr' = System reset (Total Power failure)"

I suppose after 10 years the batteries have reached the end of their
lifespan and need replacing.

Therefore my questions are:-
1. Am I correct in assuming that the batteries need replacing?
2. Does the code Sr System Reset mean that the whole unit needs
re-programming, ie: which detectors are on which circuit, entry/exit time
delay, user codes etc?
3. Is this something a reasonably competent person could do, or is an
engineer required?
4. Assuming a positive reply to the last question, as all I have is the User
Manual, could someone provide me with details of the engineers code to
access the system, I think I would feel more comfortable with the engineers
manual.

Depending on the replies, I may have more questions, but until then, TIA

Yes- I'm surprised it lasted that long.

2. Does the code Sr System Reset mean that the whole unit needs

I don't think so. It means "System has successfully reset, all wiring
and circuits are correct."

3. Is this something a reasonably competent person could do, or is an
engineer required?

You can do it! :)
4. Assuming a positive reply to the last question, as all I have is the User
