samsung/ipad tablet interfacing

Hello,

I have a question about interfacing i hope u guys can help me with it..

I want to interface a samsung or ipad tablet with the microcontroller is it possible to interface tablets through the data serial connector.

what I am trying to do is send a signal to microcontroller through a specific application via serial port.
