RFI from neighbor's burglar alarm system

J

Jan

I think that I am receiving interference on my cordless phone and TV's
(chirping) when ADT is testing my neighbor's system. I do not have a
system in my house. This chirping only occurs at night (one or two
chirps), and all other sources have been eliminated (smokies,
microwave, etc.) I have some circumstantial evidence to substantiate
my suspicions. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I dont think ADT will be testing the system. They wouldnt have the ability
The system will send a test which is ususally a phone call made by their
alarm panel at a certain time of the night. Why would this interfere with
your phone or TV Its just a phone call.

Are you sure its not the local power company switching time clocks over or
something similar.

probably not the neighbours alarm. most consumer electronics (phones,
cordless phones, vcr's tv's, home stereo's can't supress noise very
well (the internals are designed on the very minimal side to clean up
things before they use the antenna, power, ac adapter power etc).

that being said, try to get a 'RFI handbook on getting rid of RFI',
your local or federal government might publish one for free, there is
many good tips in it.

enure your telephone line has no problem in your house & to the telco
central office, check your tv antenna cables, if not RG-6 or better,
change them. try ferrite cores on your speaker leads, on telephone
line, on audio/video cables, on ac adapter wire.

may be another cordless phone, or a cell phone. any new tower put up
by your house recently? recent purchased item?

hope this helps

I have a customer complain that the PIR is turning her tv off. Are you
