Request for help sorting out Ademco panels, "vplex" polling loops

Hi. I'm looking at Ademco panels, specifically the Vista 20P or 50P.
I like the added capacity of the 50P, but I'm a bit confused by their
"vplex" polling loop system, as I have no experience with it. Does
this require that all sensor devices be vplex-enabled? Also, I notice
that the 50P shows the only compatible zone expander is the 4208U,
which is a vplex polling loop expander. And, if I'm not interested in
the vplex stuff, is it possible to simply use a 4219 expander (which
claims to run on "all vista panels", which I would assume would
include the 50P, yet the 50P doesn't show this as a supported
accessory)? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I'd also be
grateful if somebody could send me a link to a manual or FAQ that
describes the fundamentals of "vplex" and how it differs from regular
loops.

Hi, just installed a vista 50 with expanders.

The 4208U will work for any thing, polling loop or not. It is a
polling loop device that connects to the polling loop screws on the
Vista 50P. I have connected Rokonet Motion Dectectors, Other Contacts,
etc with no issues. The Vista 20P does not support polling loop hence
you need a different expander.

What exatly are you looking to achieve and do you have an idea on how
may zones (devices) you would ever require?
