Remote control electric motors

Good morning, I am trying to create a multichannel remote control relay system that can switch a 110v motor as well as a 12v motor. Similar to this
. All of the remote control systems control either 110 or 12v but not both. Also I'm concerned with off the shelf remote systems having relays to small to control say a 1 or 2 hp 110v motor. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
 
i just went back and watched that video a few times. I better understand it now i think. Im starting to put pieces together, but finding that 110v relay that switches with 12v relay from the wireless receiver is proving difficult. Anyone know where I can find the relay in the video?
 
Is the unit you are trying to work with, the one in the video. One step further back...what are you trying to control?

Im trying to build a unit just like this except with one or two more channels. I want to control a 110v electric motor a 12v electric valve and at least one LED light strip.
 
Do you want each channel to be momentary (ON as long as button is held) or toggle ON/OFF with each push?
You would attach external relays to the receiver relays, that are capable of switching the high current 12VDC or the 110VAC.

Not likely to be able to add an external antenna. What distance maximum do you think you need?
Something like that might work. You would need to add external 12vdc relays to switch your loads. No indication what voltage and current the internal relays can switch.

A couple hundred feet would be nice. I've seen some remotes the same as the one in the video that claim to have a pretty good range. I think what you mentioned earlier about having the wirless relays turning on and off the main relays then to the motor/valve is gonna be the way to do it. That's how the video shows to do it. I'm just having a hard time finding a 110v relay that can be triggered by the 12v wireless relay.
 
For switching 110VAC what you will need is a 12VDC coil relay with contacts rated at 110VAC or higher and 15A or higher (for a 2HP motor). For switching 12VDC you will need 12VDC coil relays with contacts rated at 12vDC or greater and whatever current you are switching.

I think you're confusing the voltage that activates the relays coils and the voltage that the relay contacts are switching. Pick a remote system that will meet you channel #, ON/OFF function, and range. Then we can work on what more you need.

If you want so many channels with half decent range, why not use an rc transmitter and receiver.
Even elcheapos can give 200m range.
One can add custom output units from there.
Many other alternatives along those lines when you consider quad controllers etc. also.
Place to start would be draw out a basic box diagram of what you need to do, how you expect to power everything etc. etc.
 
I've considered that route and possibly going to 900mhz for best penetration but finding a key fob style remote isn't best as easy as it is for 433mhz. Not to mention the 900mhz receivers are a lot more expensive. I have a turning 2.4ghz receiver but finding a key fob remote for that would be very difficult I'm afraid.
 
This is how I've got it in my head right now. The 12v relay to the valve could potentially be removed if the valve doesn't pull more amps than the onboard wirless relay could provide. However the video in the original post does have a stand alone relay for the valve.

Automotive device may cover it if one can believe the quoted range. I could not see any detail on frequency or power. Using relays to drive other relays is not strictly necessary if the wireless unit relays have a mains rating when switching mains devices. The exception may be with the motor, depending on size, requiring a contactor which would be driven by the wireless relay. Why so much emphasis on key fob? They have only a few metres reliably at best. One other aspect you may need to consider is local law regarding auto/ unatended motor starting.
 
It's really the form factor and small size of the key fob which make it appealing. I'll be using this while I'm outside working. The ability to clip it to my pants or slide it into my pocket in between uses is very important.

Still unsure of what relay to use for the 110v side.
 
Specs on the latter show a range of between zero and 3000 metres.
Any I have seen do well to get 30 ft.
Still, if you want to get one and try it, can do no harm for testing.
Wouldn't have a motor hanging off the end of it myself though.

As for motor control, what are the details of the motor and will it be running under full load continuously?
