RCA F38310 TV Vertical Stretch in Fill Mode

No solution from alt.tv.tech.hdtv, so I'll try here.

So, the F38310 television overstretches the vertical axis of
images in "fill" (expand both vertically and horizontally)
mode.

Does anybody know how to correct this? I've read others'
wishes for correction, but haven't yet found means.

There may be service adjustments to specify exactly how far the set "fills
out" the image when fill mode is selected. Then a gain.....it may be
preset!

I've yet to have one of these newer sets come thru my shop....so I have no
info.

I even bought the service data for the set, and found no
help there.

I suspect the mischief lies in the DM1 module (satellite
& ATSC tuners & various other things), which the TV's service data
gloss over ("... replaced as a unit.").

I may have to see what DM1 data I might be allowed to
purchase.

Be of stout arm if you get an F38310... weighs over 200 pounds!

Exactly which service literature did you get?

THDTVPrimer Digital Television Primer (AKA HDTV Primer)
TMMCPSTSM1A MMC Family Power Supply Troubleshooting
ESIDTV306307 Service Data CD

The DM1 Troubleshooting Manual is the one that glosses over
the DM1, concentrating on its overall features, power supplies, and
menu operations. Most of that is duplicated in the later pages of
the MM/MMC/DTV Troubleshooting Guide.

I'm not a Thomson ASC, but it looks like you have everything that I know of.
I don't think you will find more on the DM1.
