power supply

am using PIC16F627A microcontroller inerfaced with pir sensors. i wud appreciate if anyone assisted me with the design of a power supply that converts 240v ac to 5v dc.(240v ac is the mains supply while 5v dc goes to the pic)

The cheapest way is to get an old mobile (cell) phone charger. Many of these are 5V these days since most phones charge from USB.

Or do you *really* want to design and build one?

If so, Google will have thousands of suggestions.
