He who jumps last, jumps best. You missed the "K" on the end of
100,000K <<<< ;-)

...Jim Thompson

Oh jeez... I feel like a perfect ass. (I know, I know)

I missed that one big time, excuse me all over and over again. I can't
even believe I did something that blatently stupid. I guess I really
have lost it, now. :(

buck(ing for a discharge)

Thanks Jim. I mean that sincerely.

You had best be going back up above and rereading what's there. It's
_not_ 100,000. It says 100,000k
^
Big difference! And it's not a typo, 'cause it says that value
_twice_!!

And as for your statement above - I quote
"> 1 Gigohm is 1000 Megohms -or- 1000 X 100,000."
You had better review that one, too!

Yes, I sure screwed up for certain. Kause I missed it big time.

But... 1000 Megohms is 1 Gigohm, though... is it not?
Doesn't Giga=billion?

Did I goof there too? :\

Don't sweat it! We all do it. I always argue I'm so learned(*)
BECAUSE I've made so many stupid mistakes.

(*) Some will certainly argue that point ;-)

ALL steps are in multiples of 1000

Just like capacitors are in steps of 1000

1.0 = 1

1.0k = 1,000

1.0M = 1,000,000

1.0G = 1,000,000,000

Since I see you do catch the "a" occasionally why do you leave it
out at times? It is Megaohm, not Megohm. It is Gigabyte and Gigaohm,
not Gigohm. "Meg" and "Gig" are not valid prefixes. Perhaps... only
in conversation.

I guess I really goofed now... here I thought this was an electronics
group and now I find out it is really an English grammer and spelling
group.

My bad. :(

P.S. Why do I leave the "a" out at times?? Because this is recreational
typing and it really doesn't matter all that much, in here.

Everyone knows what I meant. Even you.

Perhaps you have a need to feel superior. Well, it looks as though you
are.

Thanks for noticing, though.

I believe the 'a' SHOULD be left out, for euphony. I see no reason,
except pedantry, to slavishly preserve the whole prefix when it results
in the vowel combination 'ao'.

I agree about the spoken form, but disagree about the written form.

We will have to ask IEC TC25 for an official ruling. Expect the answer
later this century. Much later.

Kibis, anyone?

Well, Chucko. When you enter a technical group asking for technical
assistance, then fall on your face miserably, then THINK that you
fixed YOUR problem, yet sport evidence of still being FUCKED UP,
that's what you get.

You weren't typing recreationally. That is how you have referred to
it often. The correction I provided was not grammatical, dolt.

Contrary to most Brits, who seem to want to preserve the King's English
at all costs. ;-)

On my Hotmail account I've been getting a ton of spam (or I was, until I
turned on the bit bucket filter), and more than half of it comes from
Brazil - it's in Portuguese and the TLD is .BR. I was thinking that
Portugal with ten million people has to put up with Brazil, twenty times
its size, spreading a perverted version of the Portugese language all
over the world with spam. Then it dawned on me that it's even worse,
with the Canucks, Aussies, Merkins, and even the Indians, doing the same
with the King's English!

And we haven't mentioned Kenya, Hong Kong, South Africa, and a few other
places too. Oh, yeah, Stinkapore, where you can get thrown in jail for
spitting on the street.. :-/

Well... it was recreational for me.

You are correct about me being "F***ed up". That is a given.

Your response was in no way disappointing. (also a given) After all, it
is your way.

I need all the help I can get. It's a privilege to have you here, to
point out our shortcomings. Otherwise, we might never know.

Thank you, for making my final point for me.

Ok, guys I mistyped twice, that 100,000k is wrong
it should be 100,000 or 100k.
Someone could have wrote about the idea, in support
or against rather than blathering about the error!

Thanks
Mike K.

(Because I'm not as accurate as you are... anymore. Just wait...Nunya...
you will understand someday.)

I believe this IS just conversation. Certainly nothing like formal
writing, where I would admittedly... "fail miserably".

Well put, Mike. Thanks

The "k" adds 3 more zeros. "k" standing for thousand.

100,000k = 100,000,000

So 10 x 100,000k ohms = 1,000,000,000 ohms = 1000 megAohms = 1 GigAohm

I HOPE that's right. I'm a little gun shy, at this point. :\

Did you see the show on HBO about "The Ice Man"?

That dude is cold.

I'm just an asshole. :-]

.
But the main stumbling block it seems is getting such a high voltage to
do something useful. I think about how to handle it with instruments or
add it to a circuit, and I come up with the problem of really high
voltage and leakage current problems, and preventing destruction of the
rest of the circuit.

Save them to use to light your propane camp stove when you run out of
matches and disposable butane lighters after the big one. :)

Cheers!

<pedant>
There's a linguistic term for this process - "assimilation". The "a"
in "mega" or "giga" is assimilated into the "o" sound in "Ohm". I learned
about it in, of all things, Latin class - it's used whenever the final
sound of a prefix blends into the initial sound of the word being
modified. In fact, the word "assimilate" assimilates the 'd' sound in
'ad', the Latin word for "to" or "toward", so "assimilate" is an
assimilation of "ad similate". :)
</pedant>

Hope This Helps!

I heard that they caught that kid tagging - i.e. vandalizing buildings
by painting graffiti on them. AFAIC, those vandals _should_ be flogged.

Thanks,
Rich
